Amsterdam - Museum Van Loon

the Garden and the Coach House

The Museum "Van Loom" was my favorite among all I've been in Amsterdam. In one of the finest canal houses of the city people can get a glimpse of what life was in the 17th century for a rich Amsterdam family.

In the heart of Amsterdam on the Keizersgracht stands the house of the regent family Van Loon (Willem van Loon co-founded the Dutch East-India Company in 1602).

And now prepare for lots and lots of photos:

THE GARDEN ROOM
My favorite room! I could have spend hours there!

"Museum Van Loon, a magnificent private residence built in 1672 by the architect Adriaen Dortsman. The first resident was painter Ferdinand Bol, a pupil of Rembrandt. The interior of the house has remained largely intact during the last centuries and still evokes the splendor of the Golden Age."

THE BLUE DRAWING ROOM

THE BIRD ROOM

"In the rooms, a large collection of paintings, fine furniture, precious silvery and porcelain from different centuries is on display. Behind the house is a beautiful garden, an oasis of quiet in the modern inner city. The garden is laid out in formal style, and is bordered on the far side by the classical façade of the coach house"

THE SHEEPROOM

THE DARKENSTEYN ROOM

"The canal house came into possession of the family in 1884, when the Honourable Hendrik van Loon purchased it for his son Willem as a wedding present. The family’s rich history can be gleaned from the large collection of portraits in the museum, the oldest dating back to the 16th century"

THE STAIRCASE/HALL

And that are not even all of the rooms! I really do recommend you to go there and discover the many beautiful spots this Museum has to offer. I promise you wont be disappointed! In my opinion it is far more interesting and lovley than the big and opulent palace!
